Which dash cam should I choose?
Start with how many views you need. A front camera covers most incidents, a 2-channel kit adds the rear, and a 3-channel camera adds the cabin, which matters for taxi and private hire drivers. Then pick a resolution: 1080p is fine for general evidence, 2K is a good balance, and 4K gives the best chance of reading number plates. If you want to check on your car remotely, look at our cloud connected dash cams. Shop by resolution with our 4K dash cams, and add parking protection from our dash cam accessories.
Dash Cams FAQs
Q: Do I need a front-only or front-and-rear dash cam?
A: Front-only covers the most common incidents, but front-and-rear is what we recommend for most drivers — rear-end collisions and tailgating disputes are where many contested claims arise, and a rear camera settles them instantly. Three-channel systems add an interior view for taxi and private hire work.
Q: Is dash cam footage accepted by UK insurers and police?
A: Yes — dash cam footage is widely used in UK insurance claims, and most police forces accept submissions through their online portals. Footage that clearly captures number plates carries the most weight.
Q: What is parking mode and what does it need?
A: Parking mode records while your car is parked. It needs constant power — either a hardwire kit connected to your fusebox with battery protection built in, or a dedicated dash cam battery pack that never touches your car battery. Buffered parking mode, which saves the seconds before an impact, is the feature to look for.
Q: Why buy a dash cam from CEN?
A: CEN is an authorised UK reseller of VIOFO, BlackVue, Thinkware, FineVu and Nextbase — genuine UK stock, full manufacturer warranty support, expert advice, and professional hardwire installation from our Nottingham premises.
Q: Can CEN fit my dash cam?
A: Yes. We supply and fit dash cams at our Beeston, Nottingham workshop. See our dash cam installation page for details.
Q: Is a 4K dash cam worth it?
A: 4K records finer detail, which helps with number plates at a distance. A good 2K camera is still a strong choice for most everyday drivers and uses less memory card space.
