PolarPro Helix Filters
PolarPro Helix Filters is a magnetic lens filter system for photographers and videographers who want fast, tool-free filter changes on location. Built around the Helix MagLock system, all filters attach via a magnetic quarter-turn lock to any lens fitted with a Helix Base Plate — no threading required.
The range spans variable ND, circular polarisers, mist, diffusion and combination filters, with Base Plates available in 67mm, 72mm, 77mm and 82mm thread sizes. PolarPro Helix Filters are available from £29.99.

Which PolarPro Helix filter should I choose?
A Helix Base Plate in your lens thread size is the essential first step — it threads onto the lens permanently and gives every Helix MagLock filter a magnetic mounting point. For exposure control, the Peter McKinnon VND 2–5 Stop suits most shooting conditions, while the 6–9 Stop is for extreme brightness. Both circular polarisers cut reflections and boost contrast; the Arctic CP is spec'd at 45% light transmission with a 110° short-throw rotation, while the Chris Burkard CP is aimed at landscape work.
For a film look, the CineBlack and CineGold each apply a stronger 1/2-strength mist with different highlight treatments, while the Peter McKinnon 1/4 Black Mist is subtler. The combination filters — Shortstache Everyday, Goldstache and Portra Filter Helix — each pair a Chroma polariser with a mist or colour effect, reducing the number of filters needed on location.
PolarPro Helix Filters FAQs
Q: Do I need a Helix Base Plate to use PolarPro Helix MagLock filters?
A: Yes — every Helix MagLock filter requires a Helix Base Plate, which threads onto your lens and provides the magnetic mounting point. Base Plates are sold separately in 67mm, 72mm, 77mm and 82mm thread sizes.
Q: What is included with a Helix Base Plate?
A: Each Helix Base Plate includes a Defender Cap to protect the lens when no filter is attached. A replacement Defender Cap is also available separately for £29.99.
Q: What is the difference between the Peter McKinnon VND 2–5 Stop and 6–9 Stop?
A: The 2–5 Stop is designed for cinematic shutter speeds across most lighting conditions, while the 6–9 Stop is intended for shooting wide open in extremely bright conditions.
Q: What is the difference between the CineBlack and CineGold filters?
A: Both are 1/2-strength mist diffusion filters: the CineBlack softens highlights and digital contrast for a Kodak cine film look, while the CineGold adds warm highlights designed to emulate Kodak Portra 400 film.
Q: Are any Helix filters also available as screw-in versions?
A: Yes — several filters including the CineGold, CineBlack, Shortstache Everyday, Goldstache and Portra Filter are also available in screw-in versions for various thread sizes.
