How to choose a marine amplifier

Count your speakers and subs: a mono amp for a subwoofer, 4 channels for two pairs of speakers, or 5 to 8 channels for a full system. Match RMS output to your speakers. Check your boat's electrical system, as some models come in 24V versions, and measure the mounting space. Q: Can I use a car amplifier on a boat?

A: It is not recommended. Marine amps are built to cope with moisture, salt and vibration that would shorten a car amp's life.

Q: What is a 24V marine amplifier for?

A: Larger boats often run 24V electrical systems. The 24V versions connect directly without a converter.
