Viofo A229 Pro Tele 3CH Dash Cam 3 Channel 4x Zoom 4K

The Viofo A229 Pro Tele 3CH is a three-channel dash cam with a 4K front camera, a 2K telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom, and a 1080P rear camera. All three channels use Sony STARVIS 2 sensors with HDR. It is part of the Viofo A229 Pro range.

A compatible hardwire kit for parking mode is available: the Viofo HK4 USB Type-C Hardwire Cable, which supports the A229 series.

This is the 3-channel version (front, telephoto and rear). The front CPL-200 circular polarising filter is included; the CPL-300 for the rear camera and CPL-500 for the telephoto camera are optional, as is the BTR200 Bluetooth remote.

4K front, 2K 4x optical zoom and 1080P rear

The A229 Pro Tele uses three Sony STARVIS 2 cameras to cover front, telephoto and rear. The 4x optical zoom telephoto camera is particularly useful for reading distant number plates, while the 4K front and 1080P rear cameras cover wide-angle views in both directions.

IMX678, IMX675 and IMX662 sensors — less noise, less motion blur

All three cameras use Sony STARVIS 2 sensors — the IMX678 (front), IMX675 (telephoto) and IMX662 (rear). Compared with first-generation STARVIS, these offer wider dynamic range and higher light sensitivity, reducing noise and motion blur in day and night recording.

4K ultra HD front recording

The front camera uses the Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 1/1.8" 8MP sensor to record in 4K. The higher pixel count delivers greater clarity and detail, including number plate legibility, in all lighting conditions and at motorway speeds.

2K video with 4x optical zoom

The telephoto camera records 2K video with 4x optical zoom and a 35° FOV. It captures distant detail — number plates, road signs, incidents ahead — without digital distortion, complementing the wide-angle front camera for a more complete picture of the road.

Number plate capture

The 4x optical telephoto camera brings distant vehicles into sharp focus for number plate reading. The Sony STARVIS 2 IMX675 sensor maintains performance in low light, making plate capture reliable at night and in fast-moving traffic.

1080P rear camera

The rear camera uses the Sony STARVIS 2 IMX662 1/2.8" 2MP sensor to record at 1080P. Its wider dynamic range compared with previous STARVIS sensors produces clear, sharp footage in both daytime and night-time conditions.

3-channel HDR

HDR is active across all three channels. The Sony STARVIS 2 sensors combined with HDR processing balance bright and dark areas to preserve detail in 4K and 2K footage, including accurate number plate capture in mixed lighting and fast-moving traffic.

5GHz Wi-Fi

The A229 Pro Tele includes dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz). The 5GHz connection provides faster data transfer for smooth video previewing, downloading and sharing to a paired smartphone.

USB 2.0 Type-C port

A USB 2.0 Type-C port enables direct connection to a smartphone for video and photo downloads, with speeds of up to 20MB/s on iPhone 16. The same connection is used for firmware updates.

Smart voice control and notifications

Voice commands let you start recording, take photos, and toggle Wi-Fi without touching the unit. Supported languages are English, Chinese, Russian and Japanese. The camera also provides audible notifications for settings changes and memory card errors. For extended recording without the engine running, pair with a Viofo HK4 hardwire kit and a Viofo high-endurance microSD card (up to 512GB).
