The VIOFO A149 Pro Duo is the dash cam we now recommend to most drivers: 4K at the front through a Sony STARVIS 2 sensor, 1080p at the rear, HDR on both channels and Wi-Fi 6 — at £239.95.
The sensor is the story
The A149 Pro Duo records 4K at 30fps up front using Sony's STARVIS 2 IMX678 8MP sensor behind an F1.8 140° lens, with a 1080p F1.4 rear camera covering what happens behind you. HDR runs on both.
That sensor and HDR pairing is what decides whether a number plate is readable at night against headlight glare — and night is when most disputed incidents happen. It's the same sensor technology VIOFO puts in cameras costing considerably more.
Everyday details
Wi-Fi 6 on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz makes pulling clips to your phone quick rather than a chore. GPS is built in, voice control saves reaching for buttons, and a 2.0-inch screen means you can check framing and play footage back in the car. Storage runs to 512GB.
Parking protection
Five parking modes are supported, but they need power with the ignition off. That's either the HK6-A hardwire kit, which draws from the car battery with a voltage cut-off, or the BP60 battery pack, which runs the camera from its own cells and leaves your battery alone. Our hardwire guide covers the choice.
Our take
Most people don't need the most expensive dash cam; they need a good sensor, a rear camera and a reliable install. This does all three for well under £250, which is why it's become our default recommendation. We also bundle it with the hardwire kit, cards and CPL filters if you'd rather buy it ready to fit.
Frequently asked questions
Is the A149 Pro Duo better than the A229 Pro?
They target different buyers. The A149 Pro Duo is the value 4K option with a 1080p rear; the A229 and T-series cameras offer higher rear resolution and more channels. For most drivers wanting solid 4K front and rear cover, the A149 Pro Duo is the sensible spend.
Does it do parking mode?
Yes — five parking modes, powered either by the HK6-A hardwire kit or the BP60 battery pack if you'd rather not draw from the car battery.
What memory card does it need?
A high-endurance microSD, up to 512GB supported. Standard cards wear out quickly under loop recording.
Can CEN fit it?
Yes — professional installation from our Nottingham premises, including hardwiring and tidy cable routing.
