Active or passive sub box?

Active subwoofer enclosures have the amplifier built in, so they need only power, earth, remote and a signal feed. They are the simplest bass upgrade and work with most factory stereos via a line output converter. Passive sub boxes pair with a separate amplifier for more headroom and more choice.

Sealed or ported?

Sealed enclosures give tight, accurate bass from a smaller box. Ported enclosures play louder from the same power and suit larger boots.
