The ESB 8.6K2 is a 6.5 inch 2-way component speaker system from ESB Audio's Ottomila Series, rated at 160W RMS. It pairs 8.165 6.5 inch (165 mm) mid-woofers with 8.028 1.1 inch (28 mm) Torcon® soft dome tweeters, built throughout with CNC-machined components and high-grade materials.

8.028 1.1"/28 mm Dome Tweeter

Every component of this tweeter is CNC-machined — a precise and exacting process that guarantees perfect geometry and a high-quality finish. Materials include brass, stainless steel and Avional aluminium.

The tweeter uses a large vented neodymium motor magnet, optimised via FEA computer simulation for high efficiency and improved linearity throughout the voice coil's excursion. The high-grade neodymium magnet minimises magnetic loss at elevated temperatures and concentrates more force in less volume.

The Torcon® soft dome is made from an exclusive Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS) with high-performance fibre, offering excellent heat resistance, low weight and strong self-damping. Its free resonance frequency sits above the audible range. The semi-catenary diaphragm profile maximises stiffness at the dome tip, delivering clean, smooth and transparent sound from 940 Hz to 25 kHz with high power handling.

A centre ventilation hole cools the moving coil under high power, reduces air compression behind the dome, lowers distortion and extends low-frequency response. A special acoustic resistance controls tweeter Qts, while dB Cloth® under-dome damping neutralises residual resonance, further extending frequency response and reducing harmonic distortion.

8.165 6.5"/165 mm Mid-Woofer

The Y35 ferrite magnet motor is FEA-optimised for symmetrical magnetic flux in both directions of cone travel. CNC-machined motor metal parts maximise magnetic flux linearity and minimise magnetic loss, reducing distortion at high power levels.

A 32.4 mm double-layer voice coil is wound on an aluminium former for exceptional power handling and compression-free reproduction, even during demanding musical passages.

The non-pressed cellulose pulp exponential cone features a vinylester resin coating, balancing rigidity, weight and self-damping. It delivers natural, linear reproduction with excellent high-frequency extension and no audible break-up. An aluminium dust cap, fixed directly to the voice coil former, increases and linearises the top of the bandwidth.

The CNC aluminium basket (LE model only) reduces back reflections and improves torsional rigidity, resulting in better efficiency, greater power handling and lower distortion. The exclusive TSW (Twin Symmetrical Wave) rubber surround provides maximum linearity of travel and high reliability in extreme conditions. The axial ventilation system aids thermal dissipation, while the large Conex™ spider manages cone excursion smoothly at both low and high levels. The terminal connection design accepts very large gauge cables.
