ESB 8000 Series - 6.5"/165 mm Mid-Woofer
The 8000 Series is the direct successor to the 7000 Series, developed using the latest technologies and materials while retaining the installation versatility and musicality ESB Audio is known for. Every detail has been addressed - from material selection and basket construction to magnet ventilation and voice coil design.
The Y35 ferrite magnet motor is optimized with FEA simulation to ensure a perfectly symmetrical magnetic flux in both directions of cone’s run. Motor metal parts are CNC machined from solid, refined material for maximum magnetic flux linearity and minimum magnetic loss. This reduces distortion at high power levels.
The 32.4 mm double layer voice coil is wound on an aluminum former for exceptional power handling and compression-free reproduction, even for the most demanding musical passages.
Non pressed cellulose pulp exponential cone with a vinylester resin coating ensures a perfect balance between rigidity, weight, and self-damping. The cellulose pulp guarantees an extremely natural and linear reproduction in all musical passages with an excellent extension at high frequencies without audible break-up. An aluminum dust cup fixed directly on the voice coil former increases and linearizes the extreme top of the bandwidth.
The CNC (LE model only) aluminum basket ensures a drastic reduction of the cone’s back reflections and a greater torsional rigidity. High structural and torsional rigidity for perfect parts alignment requires very tight tolerances in the construction and assembling system. This results in better efficiency, more power handling and less distortion.
The exclusive TSW (Twin Symmetrical Wave) rubber surround offers maximum linearity of travel and high reliability in extreme conditions. The axial ventilation system ensures high thermal dissipation capacity, power handling and reliability.
The large Conex™ spider allows a smooth and gentle run at low excursions and gently holds the cone at high excursions, thus increasing its useful range of use. The exclusive terminal connection design accepts very large gauge cables.

About the ESB Audio 8.165
From our tech experts at CEN
The ESB 8.165 is a 6.5 inch (165 mm) component mid-woofer from ESB Audio's 8000 Series, the direct successor to the 7000 Series. It handles 160W RMS continuous power (320W peak) with a 32.4 mm double-layer voice coil on an aluminium former and a cellulose pulp cone. Nominal impedance is 3 ohms; sensitivity is 89 dB at 1W/1m. Sold as a pair.
Who it suits
This mid-woofer suits enthusiasts building a high-end component system who want low-distortion, natural sound at higher power levels. It is not a full-range speaker and needs a separate tweeter and crossover. For a more modest 6.5 inch option, see the ESB 3.165 Tremila Series mid-woofer at 120W RMS.
Our tech experts advise
Verify your amplifier is stable at 3 ohms before fitting; recommended amplifier power is 60–280W RMS. The 8.165 requires a compatible tweeter and passive crossover to function as a complete system — browse the ESB Audio collection for compatible options. Installation is priced per vehicle; contact us via our car audio installation page for details.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will these speakers fit my car?
A: Most car speakers are standard sizes, but mounting depth and fitting rings vary by vehicle. Check the size in the Specification tab against your vehicle, or contact CEN with your registration and we will confirm fitment and any adapters or fitting kits you need.
Q: Do I need an amplifier to run these speakers?
A: Not always. Most speakers will run from a standard head unit, but a dedicated amplifier lets them perform at their best, particularly for component sets and higher power handling models. The RMS figure in the Specification tab is the guide to how much clean power they can use.
Q: What is the difference between coaxial and component speakers?
A: Coaxial speakers combine the tweeter and woofer in one unit for a simple like-for-like upgrade. Component sets separate the tweeter and woofer with a crossover for better imaging and detail, and suit installs where sound quality is the priority.
Q: Do these come as a pair?
A: Unless stated otherwise, car speakers are sold in pairs. Check the product title and What's Included tab, which lists exactly what is in the box.
Q: Can CEN fit these speakers for me?
A: Yes. CEN offers professional installation from our Nottingham premises. Contact us to book an installation slot or ask for a fitting quote.
