S2-W8D4 Next-Generation 20cm (8") S-Series Subwoofer with Dual 4-Ohm Voice Coils

The new 2023 S-Series subwoofers

The S2-W8D4 is a redesigned S-Series 8" subwoofer built for powerful, reliable bass at an accessible price. Alpine's next-generation S-Series applies technology from their higher-end subwoofers to deliver genuine depth and punch.

The S2-W8D4 handles up to 300W RMS. Its cone combines carbon fibre and polypropylene for a lightweight yet rigid construction, while the rubber High Amplitude Multi-Roll (HAMR) surround maximises excursion. Configuration jumpers make it straightforward to switch between 2 ohm and 8 ohm impedance. The sub performs well in both sealed and ported enclosures — tight and precise or big and boomy, depending on your preference.

Performance & Value

With 300W RMS and 900W peak power handling, a frequency response of 23Hz to 215Hz, and a sensitivity of 82.7dB (SPL@1W/1m), the S2-W8D4 delivers accurate and powerful bass across a wide range of music.

HAMR Surround

Alpine's High Amplitude Multi-Roll (H.A.M.R.) surround technology uses a rubber surround that allows the cone to move air efficiently while managing heat. It provides 13mm of one-way linear excursion (X-Max) for accurate, controlled bass.

Enhanced Punch

The carbon fibre and polypropylene cone is both light and stiff, producing deep, low-distortion bass with improved richness and detail in your music.

Flexible Application

The dual voice coil (DVC) design includes easy configuration jumpers for straightforward installation. A twist-lock grille mounting system allows an optional grille to be fitted and removed without mounting screws.

Perfect Power Match

The S2-W8D4 is designed to pair with Alpine's S-Series amplifiers. A single S2-W8D4 works well with the 600W S2-A60M mono amplifier; two or more can be driven by the 1200W S2-A120M. If you want remote bass level control, the Alpine RUX-KNOB2 is compatible with Alpine PDX and S-Series amplifiers.

Sizes & Variations

The S-Series subwoofer range is available in 8", 10" and 12" sizes, each offered in dual 2Ω and dual 4Ω impedance options.

Made for S-Series Amps & Subs

S-Series components are designed to work together as a system, matching Alpine S-Series amplifiers and subwoofers for straightforward, high-quality system building. The range is aimed at customers who want great sound — including Hi-Res Audio capability — without overspending.

About the Alpine S2-W8D4

From our tech experts at CEN

A 8 inch subwoofer, with dual 4 ohm voice coils so it can be wired to suit your amplifier, handling 300w RMS.

Who it suits

Drivers building a system where the bass does real work rather than filling in. This suits a sealed or ported enclosure sized to the driver, in a boot or a custom build.

Our tech experts advise

A subwoofer is only as good as its enclosure and the amplifier driving it: box volume and amplifier matching decide what you hear, and dual voice coils give you options for how it is wired. We build enclosures and match amplification at our Beeston workshop. Installation is priced per vehicle, so get in touch with your make, model and year and we will confirm what it needs and what the work involves. See car audio installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need an amplifier for this subwoofer?

A: Yes, unless it is an active (powered) subwoofer with a built-in amplifier. Passive subwoofers need an external amplifier matched to the RMS power and impedance shown in the Specification tab.

Q: What size enclosure does this subwoofer need?

A: The recommended enclosure volume is listed in the Specification tab where the manufacturer provides it. As a rule, sealed enclosures give tighter, more accurate bass while ported enclosures deliver more output. Contact CEN if you would like a recommendation for your build.

Q: What does RMS power mean?

A: RMS is the continuous power a subwoofer can handle, and it is the number that matters when matching an amplifier. Peak or max figures describe short bursts only. Match your amplifier output to the RMS rating in the Specification tab.

Q: Sealed or ported enclosure - which should I choose?

A: Sealed boxes are compact and produce tight, controlled bass suited to sound quality builds. Ported boxes are larger and produce more output at low frequencies, suited to those who want maximum impact. Either works well when built to the recommended volume.

Q: Can CEN build or supply an enclosure and fit everything?

A: Yes. CEN supplies enclosures and offers professional installation from our Nottingham premises, including amplifier wiring. Contact us to discuss your build.

Q: What box volume does the S2-W8D4 need?

A: Alpine recommends a sealed box of 5.1 to 15 litres or a ported box of 10.8 to 20.7 litres.

Q: Which amplifier suits the S2-W8D4?

A: Alpine pairs a single S2-W8D4 with the 600W S2-A60M mono amplifier, or two or more with the 1200W S2-A120M. Match the amplifier to the 300W RMS rating and dual 4 ohm voice coils.

Q: Is a grille included with the S2-W8D4?

A: No. The grille is not included. The twist-lock mount lets you fit an optional grille without screws. The box contains the subwoofer and a trim ring.
