The New 2023 S-Series Subwoofers
The S2-W12D4 is part of Alpine's redesigned next-generation S-Series subwoofer line, built to deliver powerful, reliable bass at an accessible price. Alpine has applied technology from its higher-end subwoofers to bring depth and punch without the premium cost.
The S2-W12D4 handles up to 600W RMS, so you can drive it hard. The cone combines carbon fibre and polypropylene for a light yet sturdy construction, while the rubber HAMR surround enables maximum excursion. Configuration jumpers let you switch between 2 ohm and 8 ohm impedance to suit your setup. The sub works in both sealed and ported enclosures — tight and precise or big and boomy, depending on your preference.
Performance & Value
With 600W RMS and 1800W peak power handling, a frequency response of 23Hz–215Hz, and a sensitivity of 86.2dB (1W/1m), the S2-W12D4 delivers strong, accurate bass across a wide range of music genres.
HAMR Surround
Alpine's High Amplitude Multi-Roll (H.A.M.R.) surround technology uses a rubber surround that allows the cone to move air efficiently while keeping temperatures down. It provides 15mm of one-way excursion for accurate, controlled bass output.
Enhanced Punch
The lightweight carbon fibre and polypropylene cone delivers deep, low-distortion bass, adding richness and depth to your music.
Flexible Application
The Dual Voice Coil (DVC) design with easy configuration jumpers simplifies installation. A twist-lock grille mounting system allows an optional grille to be fitted and removed without screws.
Perfect Power Match
The S2-W12D4 is power-matched to Alpine's S-Series amplifiers. A single sub pairs neatly with the 600W S2-A60M mono amplifier. For a bigger setup, two or more S2-W12D4 subs can be driven by the 1200W S2-A120M amp. You can also add an Alpine RUX-KNOB2 remote bass level control for convenient level adjustment from the driver's seat.
Sizes & Variations
The S-Series subwoofer range is available in 12", 10" and 8" sizes, in both dual 2Ω and dual 4Ω impedance options. If you need more headroom, the Alpine R2-W12D2 is a 12" R Series subwoofer rated at 750W RMS with dual 2 ohm voice coils.
Made for S-Series Amps & Subs
The S-Series speakers are designed to work together with Alpine's S-Series amplifier and subwoofer line for complete system building. S-Series components are aimed at those who want a great-sounding system without overspending, with Hi-Res Audio capability included.

About the Alpine S2-W12D4
From our tech experts at CEN
A 12 inch subwoofer, with dual 4 ohm voice coils so it can be wired to suit your amplifier, handling 600w RMS.
Who it suits
Drivers building a system where the bass does real work rather than filling in. This suits a sealed or ported enclosure sized to the driver, in a boot or a custom build.
Our tech experts advise
A subwoofer is only as good as its enclosure and the amplifier driving it: box volume and amplifier matching decide what you hear, and dual voice coils give you options for how it is wired. We build enclosures and match amplification at our Beeston workshop. Installation is priced per vehicle, so get in touch with your make, model and year and we will confirm what it needs and what the work involves. See car audio installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need an amplifier for this subwoofer?
A: Yes, unless it is an active (powered) subwoofer with a built-in amplifier. Passive subwoofers need an external amplifier matched to the RMS power and impedance shown in the Specification tab.
Q: What size enclosure does this subwoofer need?
A: The recommended enclosure volume is listed in the Specification tab where the manufacturer provides it. As a rule, sealed enclosures give tighter, more accurate bass while ported enclosures deliver more output. Contact CEN if you would like a recommendation for your build.
Q: What does RMS power mean?
A: RMS is the continuous power a subwoofer can handle, and it is the number that matters when matching an amplifier. Peak or max figures describe short bursts only. Match your amplifier output to the RMS rating in the Specification tab.
Q: Sealed or ported enclosure - which should I choose?
A: Sealed boxes are compact and produce tight, controlled bass suited to sound quality builds. Ported boxes are larger and produce more output at low frequencies, suited to those who want maximum impact. Either works well when built to the recommended volume.
Q: Can CEN build or supply an enclosure and fit everything?
A: Yes. CEN supplies enclosures and offers professional installation from our Nottingham premises, including amplifier wiring. Contact us to discuss your build.
Q: How much power does the Alpine S2-W12D4 handle?
A: It is rated at 600W RMS and 1800W peak, with dual 4 ohm voice coils. Alpine pairs one with the 600W S2-A60M mono amplifier, or two or more with the 1200W S2-A120M.
Q: What box size does the S2-W12D4 need?
A: Alpine specifies a sealed box volume of 17.3-34 litres or a ported box volume of 30-45.3 litres.
Q: Does the S2-W12D4 come with a grille?
A: No. The box contains the 12-inch dual 4 ohm subwoofer and a trim ring. The twist-lock mounting system accepts an optional grille.
