The new 2023 S-Series subwoofers
Alpine's redesigned S-Series subwoofers apply technology from their higher-end subs to deliver deep, punchy bass at an accessible price. The S2-W8D2 handles up to 300W RMS, making it well suited to a wide range of car audio builds.
The redesigned cone combines carbon fibre and polypropylene for a lightweight yet rigid construction. A rubber High Amplitude Multi-Roll (HAMR) surround enables maximum excursion, and configuration jumpers allow straightforward wiring changes to suit your system. The S2-W8D2 works in both sealed and ported enclosures, giving you the choice between tight, precise bass or big, boomy output.
Performance & Value
With 300W RMS and 900W peak power handling, a frequency response of 23Hz to 215Hz, and a sensitivity of 82.7dB (SPL@1W/1m), the S2-W8D2 delivers accurate and powerful bass across a wide range of music genres.
HAMR Surround
Alpine's High Amplitude Multi-Roll (H.A.M.R.) surround technology allows the cone to move air efficiently while keeping temperatures in check. It provides 13mm of one-way linear excursion (X-Max) for accurate, low-distortion bass.
Enhanced Punch
The carbon fibre and polypropylene cone is both light and stiff, producing deep bass with low distortion and strong dynamic performance.
Flexible Application
Dual Voice Coil (DVC) wiring with easy configuration jumpers simplifies installation. A twist-lock grille mounting system allows an optional grille to be fitted and removed without mounting screws.
Perfect Power Match
Alpine recommends pairing the S2-W8D2 with the 600W S2-A60M mono amplifier for a single sub, or the 1200W S2-A120M amp when running two or more. You can also add an Alpine RUX-KNOB2 remote bass level control for convenient level adjustment from the driver's seat.
Sizes & Variations
The S-Series subwoofer range is available in 8", 10" and 12" sizes, each offered in dual 2Ω and dual 4Ω impedances.
Made for S-Series Amps & Subs
S-Series components are designed to work together as a matched system, covering amplifiers, subwoofers and speakers. The range is built for those who want genuine performance and Hi-Res Audio capability without an excessive outlay.

About the Alpine S2-W8D2
From our tech experts at CEN
A 8 inch subwoofer, with dual 2 ohm voice coils so it can be wired to suit your amplifier, handling 300w RMS.
Who it suits
Drivers building a system where the bass does real work rather than filling in. This suits a sealed or ported enclosure sized to the driver, in a boot or a custom build.
Our tech experts advise
A subwoofer is only as good as its enclosure and the amplifier driving it: box volume and amplifier matching decide what you hear, and dual voice coils give you options for how it is wired. We build enclosures and match amplification at our Beeston workshop. Installation is priced per vehicle, so get in touch with your make, model and year and we will confirm what it needs and what the work involves. See car audio installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need an amplifier for this subwoofer?
A: Yes, unless it is an active (powered) subwoofer with a built-in amplifier. Passive subwoofers need an external amplifier matched to the RMS power and impedance shown in the Specification tab.
Q: What size enclosure does this subwoofer need?
A: The recommended enclosure volume is listed in the Specification tab where the manufacturer provides it. As a rule, sealed enclosures give tighter, more accurate bass while ported enclosures deliver more output. Contact CEN if you would like a recommendation for your build.
Q: What does RMS power mean?
A: RMS is the continuous power a subwoofer can handle, and it is the number that matters when matching an amplifier. Peak or max figures describe short bursts only. Match your amplifier output to the RMS rating in the Specification tab.
Q: Sealed or ported enclosure - which should I choose?
A: Sealed boxes are compact and produce tight, controlled bass suited to sound quality builds. Ported boxes are larger and produce more output at low frequencies, suited to those who want maximum impact. Either works well when built to the recommended volume.
Q: Can CEN build or supply an enclosure and fit everything?
A: Yes. CEN supplies enclosures and offers professional installation from our Nottingham premises, including amplifier wiring. Contact us to discuss your build.
Q: What box volume does the S2-W8D2 need?
A: Alpine recommends a sealed box of 5.1 to 15 litres or a ported box of 10.8 to 20.7 litres.
Q: Which amplifier suits the S2-W8D2?
A: Alpine pairs a single S2-W8D2 with the 600W S2-A60M mono amplifier, or two or more with the 1200W S2-A120M. Match the amplifier to the 300W RMS rating and dual 2 ohm voice coils.
Q: Is a grille included with the S2-W8D2?
A: No. The grille is not included. The twist-lock mount lets you fit an optional grille without screws. The box contains the subwoofer and a trim ring.
