4K Front, 2K Rear and Infrared Cabin Recording
The A229 Pro 3CH uses Sony STARVIS 2 technology across its front and rear cameras, delivering 4K front and 2K rear recording in high quality day and night.
IMX678 and IMX675 Sensors — Less Noise, Less Motion Blur
The front uses the IMX678 and the rear uses the IMX675 — both Sony STARVIS 2 sensors. Compared with standard STARVIS, they offer wider dynamic range and higher light sensitivity, reducing noise and motion blur in day and night footage.
4K Ultra HD Front Recording
The front camera records in 4K using a Sony STARVIS 2 1/1.8'' 8MP sensor. It captures number plates and fine details with clarity at speed, day or night.
2K Rear Recording
The rear camera records in 2K using a Sony STARVIS 2 1/2.8'' 5MP sensor. Its dynamic range is 2.5 times wider than a STARVIS pixel of the same size, producing sharp footage in both daytime and night-time conditions.
Infrared Cabin Recording
The cabin camera uses a Sony STARVIS IMX307 sensor with HDR technology for clear, balanced interior footage. A built-in IR light sensor automatically activates four infrared LEDs in low light, capturing sharp black-and-white detail even in total darkness.
3-Channel HDR
HDR technology combined with the Sony STARVIS 2 sensors balances bright and dark areas across all three channels, accurately restoring 4K and 2K detail at night and capturing number plate information in fast-moving traffic.
5GHz Wi-Fi
A built-in 5GHz Wi-Fi module provides fast data transfer for smooth video previewing, downloading and sharing via the Viofo app.
USB 2.0 Type-C Connectivity
Connect directly to a smartphone via a USB 2.0 Type-C to Type-C cable for fast photo and video downloads — up to 20MB/s on iPhone 16. The same connection supports firmware updates. A Viofo 512GB U3 A2 V30 microSD card is available separately and is compatible with this camera.
Voice Control and Notifications
Built-in voice control lets you start recording, take photos and toggle Wi-Fi using spoken commands in English, Chinese, Russian or Japanese. The camera also announces settings changes and memory card errors audibly.
Quad-Mode GPS
The built-in quad-mode GPS module supports GPS, BeiDou, Galileo and GLONASS for fast, accurate positioning. Location, speed and time data are logged and viewable in the Viofo app or on a computer during video playback.

About the Viofo A229 Pro 3CH
From our tech experts at CEN
The A229 Pro 3CH records 4K at the front, 2K behind and an infrared cabin channel, so the road ahead, the road behind and the inside of the car are all covered on one system running from a supercapacitor.
Who it suits
Taxi and private hire drivers, Uber and rideshare work, and driving instructors, where passenger behaviour, fare disputes and damage claims matter as much as the traffic. The infrared cabin camera records clearly at night without lighting up the interior. Fleet operators fit these for the same reason.
Our tech experts advise
Three channels need a bigger card, so start at 256GB high-endurance. Add the HK4 hardwire kit for parking mode if the car sits on a rank or on the street between shifts. We fit 3-channel systems from £120 at our Beeston workshop. See dash cam installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What SD card do I need for this dash cam?
A: Use a high-endurance microSD card designed for continuous recording. Standard cards wear out quickly in dash cams. CEN stocks suitable high-endurance cards, and the maximum supported capacity is listed in the Specification tab.
Q: Does this dash cam record while the car is parked?
A: Parking mode is listed in the Specification tab. Where supported, it requires constant power from either a hardwire kit or a dedicated dash cam battery pack, both of which CEN stocks.
Q: Do I need to hardwire the dash cam?
A: Not necessarily. All dash cams work from the 12V socket for drive recording. Hardwiring hides the cabling and enables parking mode, and CEN offers professional hardwire installation from our Nottingham premises.
Q: Will the footage be accepted by my insurer or the police?
A: Dash cam footage is widely used in insurance claims and can be submitted to most UK police forces through their online portals. Recording quality matters, so check the resolution in the Specification tab.
Q: Front only or front and rear - which should I choose?
A: A front camera covers the most common claim scenarios. A two-channel system adds rear coverage for rear-end collisions and tailgating evidence, which is where many disputed claims arise. Three-channel systems add an interior view, suited to taxi and fleet use.
Q: What does the A229 Pro 3CH cabin camera record?
A: The cabin camera uses a Sony STARVIS IMX307 sensor with HDR, and four infrared LEDs switch on automatically in low light so it records black and white footage even in total darkness.
Q: What resolution does the A229 Pro 3CH record?
A: With all three cameras running it records 4K front, 2K rear and 1080P cabin at 30fps, with other combinations available.
Q: Is a CPL filter included with the A229 Pro 3CH?
A: Yes. The CPL-200 front camera filter is included. A CPL-300 rear filter is available as an option.
