TS-A300S4: 30cm 4 ohm enclosure-type single voice coil subwoofer (1500W)

The Pioneer TS-A300S4 is a 12" (30cm) single voice coil passive subwoofer from Pioneer's A-Series, rated at 500W RMS continuous and 1500W maximum. It uses an injection moulded polypropylene (IMPP™) cone, push-type terminals and a 4-ohm impedance. An enclosure and external amplifier are required and are not included.

This sub suits anyone building a custom car audio setup who wants to choose their own enclosure and amplifier separately. If you prefer a self-contained solution, the Pioneer TS-WX300A is a powered 12" option with a built-in amplifier. For dual voice coil wiring flexibility, consider the Pioneer TS-A300D4.

Q: Do I need an amplifier for this subwoofer?

A: Yes, unless it is an active (powered) subwoofer with a built-in amplifier. Passive subwoofers need an external amplifier matched to the RMS power and impedance shown in the Specification tab.

Q: What size enclosure does this subwoofer need?

A: The recommended enclosure volume is listed in the Specification tab where the manufacturer provides it. As a rule, sealed enclosures give tighter, more accurate bass while ported enclosures deliver more output. Contact CEN if you would like a recommendation for your build.

Q: What does RMS power mean?

A: RMS is the continuous power a subwoofer can handle, and it is the number that matters when matching an amplifier. Peak or max figures describe short bursts only. Match your amplifier output to the RMS rating in the Specification tab.

Q: Sealed or ported enclosure - which should I choose?

A: Sealed boxes are compact and produce tight, controlled bass suited to sound quality builds. Ported boxes are larger and produce more output at low frequencies, suited to those who want maximum impact. Either works well when built to the recommended volume.

Q: Can CEN build or supply an enclosure and fit everything?

A: Yes. CEN supplies enclosures and offers professional installation from our Nottingham premises, including amplifier wiring. Contact us to discuss your build.

Q: Is the Pioneer TS-A300S4 single or dual voice coil?

A: It has a single 4 ohm voice coil, so it connects directly to a mono amplifier or a bridged pair of channels rated for a 4 ohm load.

Q: What amplifier suits the TS-A300S4?

A: Choose an amplifier delivering up to 500W RMS at 4 ohms to match its continuous rating. Pioneer designs it to pair with its GM-A series amplifiers.

Q: Does the TS-A300S4 come in a box?
