Utopia 8WM woofer: outstanding versatility
The standout quality of this woofer is its versatility. The 'M'-profile 'W' sandwich cone combined with the TMD® surround gives it an exceptionally broad frequency range — reaching low for strong dynamics while climbing into the high-mids for a seamless transition with the Focal 3.5WM midrange or TBM tweeter.
An 'à la carte' concept
The Utopia M line is built around a component-by-component approach, letting you select each individual driver to match your vehicle and your requirements. The only limit is your creativity.
'M'-profile 'W' sandwich cone
The patented 'M'-profile cone is the result of years of research into materials and geometry. Formed from a single piece, it combines rigidity, lightness and damping — the three essential criteria for an ideal speaker driver. The outcome is a highly linear frequency response, low distortion and improved sound dispersion, delivering striking realism and fine detail.
TMD® surround
First developed for Focal's Sopra hi-fi loudspeaker range, the TMD® (Tuned Mass Damper) surround features a unique profile engineered to control resonance and drastically reduce distortion caused by cone deformation. The result is better-defined, more realistic midrange reproduction.
Progressive spider
All Utopia M drivers use a progressive spider built around a progressive cross-section. This reproduces the full impact of bass while optimising linearity, precision and dynamics.
Made in France, unique design
The entire Utopia M range is designed, developed and manufactured in Focal's workshops in Saint-Etienne, France, drawing on nearly forty years of speaker design expertise. The Utopia M chassis blends tradition, performance and distinctly French elegance.

Q: Will these speakers fit my car?
A: Most car speakers are standard sizes, but mounting depth and fitting rings vary by vehicle. Check the size in the Specification tab against your vehicle, or contact CEN with your registration and we will confirm fitment and any adapters or fitting kits you need.
Q: Do I need an amplifier to run these speakers?
A: Not always. Most speakers will run from a standard head unit, but a dedicated amplifier lets them perform at their best, particularly for component sets and higher power handling models. The RMS figure in the Specification tab is the guide to how much clean power they can use.
Q: What is the difference between coaxial and component speakers?
A: Coaxial speakers combine the tweeter and woofer in one unit for a simple like-for-like upgrade. Component sets separate the tweeter and woofer with a crossover for better imaging and detail, and suit installs where sound quality is the priority.
