From our tech experts at CEN
Audison Prima midbass drivers, 8 inch, handling 100w RMS, built to cover one band in a multi-way front stage.
Who it suits
Drivers building an active or multi-way system where each driver has a defined job and a processor sets the crossover points. Prima is the accessible end of the Audison range and still built to the same thinking.
Our tech experts advise
Drivers like this assume amplification and processing: the crossover points and mounting locations matter as much as the hardware. get in touch and we will help specify the front stage. See car audio installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need an amplifier for this subwoofer?
A: Yes, unless it is an active (powered) subwoofer with a built-in amplifier. Passive subwoofers need an external amplifier matched to the RMS power and impedance shown in the Specification tab.
Q: What size enclosure does this subwoofer need?
A: The recommended enclosure volume is listed in the Specification tab where the manufacturer provides it. As a rule, sealed enclosures give tighter, more accurate bass while ported enclosures deliver more output. Contact CEN if you would like a recommendation for your build.
Q: What does RMS power mean?
A: RMS is the continuous power a subwoofer can handle, and it is the number that matters when matching an amplifier. Peak or max figures describe short bursts only. Match your amplifier output to the RMS rating in the Specification tab.
Q: Sealed or ported enclosure - which should I choose?
A: Sealed boxes are compact and produce tight, controlled bass suited to sound quality builds. Ported boxes are larger and produce more output at low frequencies, suited to those who want maximum impact. Either works well when built to the recommended volume.
Q: Can CEN build or supply an enclosure and fit everything?
A: Yes. CEN supplies enclosures and offers professional installation from our Nottingham premises, including amplifier wiring. Contact us to discuss your build.
Q: Does the Audison Prima AP 8 need a crossover?
A: No passive crossover is required. The dome profile is optimised to give a calibrated mechanical low-pass cut-off frequency, which maximises efficiency.
Q: Which cars is the Audison AP 8 designed for?
A: It is designed for vehicles equipped with an 8-inch woofer as a standard OEM component, with reduced mounting depth for installation in OEM placements. Contact CEN to confirm it suits your vehicle.
Q: How much power does the Audison Prima AP 8 handle?
A: It handles 100W continuous and 300W peak at 4 ohms, with a sensitivity of 93.5dB and a frequency response of 35Hz to 3kHz.
