The BA12D2-V5 is the 12″ model in the Black Air subwoofer line — the same long-throw engine as the BA10D2, built around a bigger cone. More cone area means more air moved, so it plays louder and reaches deeper: down to 28 Hz, with a double-stacked motor handling 800 watts.
Like its 10″ sibling, it uses a dual 2-ohm voice coil and 15 mm of controlled travel. The larger diaphragm turns that travel into more output. It's the choice when you have the depth and boot space, and want bass that goes lower and hits harder.
More cone, more output — and deeper
Output from a sub comes down to how much air the cone moves. At 483 cm², the 12″ cone has significantly more area than a 10″ (roughly 300 cm²). It uses the same 15 mm of travel, but each stroke shifts more air for greater output. The larger cone also resonates lower, reaching down to 28 Hz where a 10″ stops at 30. If you want deeper, harder bass and have room for a 12″, this is the one.
A serious motor
Behind the cone is a double-stacked ferrite motor — two 50-ounce magnets — developing a 17.8 T·m force factor, even stronger than the 10″'s. That's needed: a 12″ cone is a heavier thing to move, and a strong motor grips it tightly enough to start and stop bass cleanly rather than letting it boom on after the signal. It handles 800 watts without losing composure.
Long-throw, kept linear
The voice coil is wound 40 mm tall, keeping it engaged in the magnetic gap throughout 15 mm of travel each way. Two spiders — not one — hold the cone dead straight instead of letting it rock at the extremes of its stroke. On a large cone moving this far, that control is the difference between clean, deep output and audible distortion at volume.

About the Vibe BA12D2-V5
From our tech experts at CEN
The Vibe Black Air BA12D2-V5 is a 12 inch dual 2-ohm subwoofer rated at 750w RMS. Built around a double-stacked ferrite motor with two 50-ounce magnets, it moves a 483 cm² cone with 15 mm of controlled excursion each way, with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 750 Hz.
Who it suits
This suits anyone with enough boot space who wants deeper, harder-hitting bass than a 10 inch driver produces. If space is limited, the Vibe SLICK10D2-V3 10 inch 500w RMS sub is a step down in size.
Our tech experts advise
The BA12D2-V5 needs an enclosure of 1.5–2.5 ft³; Vibe recommend pairing it with the POWERBOX800.1D-V3 amplifier. Mounting depth is 7.3 inches (186 mm) — confirm this clears your enclosure before ordering. The dual 2-ohm coils can be wired to 1 ohm or 4 ohms to match your amplifier's stable load. No grille is included. Fitting is priced per vehicle; see our car audio installation page for details.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need an amplifier for this subwoofer?
A: Yes, unless it is an active (powered) subwoofer with a built-in amplifier. Passive subwoofers need an external amplifier matched to the RMS power and impedance shown in the Specification tab.
Q: What size enclosure does this subwoofer need?
A: The recommended enclosure volume is listed in the Specification tab where the manufacturer provides it. As a rule, sealed enclosures give tighter, more accurate bass while ported enclosures deliver more output. Contact CEN if you would like a recommendation for your build.
Q: What does RMS power mean?
A: RMS is the continuous power a subwoofer can handle, and it is the number that matters when matching an amplifier. Peak or max figures describe short bursts only. Match your amplifier output to the RMS rating in the Specification tab.
Q: Sealed or ported enclosure - which should I choose?
A: Sealed boxes are compact and produce tight, controlled bass suited to sound quality builds. Ported boxes are larger and produce more output at low frequencies, suited to those who want maximum impact. Either works well when built to the recommended volume.
Q: Can CEN build or supply an enclosure and fit everything?
A: Yes. CEN supplies enclosures and offers professional installation from our Nottingham premises, including amplifier wiring. Contact us to discuss your build.
Q: How shallow is the BLACKAIR12D2S-V3?
A: It has a mounting depth of 80mm (3.1 inch) and a mounting diameter of 267mm (10.5 inch).
Q: How much power does the BLACKAIR12D2S-V3 handle?
A: It is rated at 300W RMS and 900W peak, with dual 2 ohm voice coils.
Q: How should I wire a dual 2 ohm subwoofer?
A: The BLACKAIR12D2S-V3 has two 2 ohm voice coils, which can be wired in series for a 4 ohm load or in parallel for a 1 ohm load. Choose the option that matches your amplifier.
