Impressive sound pressure and power

The SP 4.900 is the first Hertz amplifier to feature the Hertz ADC (Advanced D-Class) output stage, reaching up to 85% efficiency. Its ultra-compact dimensions of 211.6 x 130 mm make it suitable for tight installations including motorcycles, under-seat in sports cars, and behind-seat in trucks.

Hertz ADC technology delivers a 105 dBA S/N ratio and 0.02% THD, while minimising EMI and RFI noise. The amplifier's 4/3/2-channel flexibility lets you power high-power (4Ω) front speakers alongside a bridged (4Ω) subwoofer from a single unit.

The SP 4.900 is fully protected against overheating and DC outputs, switching immediately to protection mode (red LED on) to safeguard your speakers.

The IP55-certified aluminium chassis protects against humidity and external agents. The absence of an internal cooling fan prevents dirt build-up, and the main board has conformal coating to guard against internal condensation.

  • Up to 85% efficiency via ADC (Advanced D-Class) output stage
  • USS (Universal Speakers Simulators) allows the SP 4.900 to work with head units featuring a speaker load detection circuit
  • 160W x 4 RMS (4Ω) in an ultra-compact 211.6 x 130 mm chassis
  • IP55 aluminium chassis for maximum protection against humidity and external agents

All crossover filters and control knobs are located on a single side for easy calibration once installed. The filters section includes high-pass and low-pass crossovers adjustable from 50 Hz to 5 kHz at a 12 dB/octave slope, plus a bass boost control (45 Hz, 0–8 dB). This allows both front channels to be configured for full-range operation or use with a subwoofer and related speakers.

The high-pass crossover can also be used to optimise the performance of SPL Show NEO high-efficiency coaxial speakers — the recommended partners for the SP 4.900.

About the Hertz SP 4.900

From our tech experts at CEN

A multi-channel amplifier, rated at 1000w RMS. Enough channels for a front and rear stage, or a front stage with the remaining channels bridged onto a sub.

Who it suits

Drivers who have upgraded their speakers and found the head unit cannot drive them properly. This is the step that makes good speakers sound like good speakers.

Our tech experts advise

Power figures mean little until the amplifier is matched to the speakers and the gains are set with a meter rather than by ear. It needs a fused feed from the battery on the correct cable gauge. Installation is priced per vehicle, so get in touch with your make, model and year and we will confirm what it needs. See car audio installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I choose the right amplifier for my speakers or subwoofer?

A: Match the amplifier's RMS output per channel to the RMS handling of your speakers or subwoofer at the same impedance. The Specification tab lists the power figures. If in doubt, contact CEN with your setup and we will recommend a match.

Q: What wiring do I need to install this amplifier?

A: You will need an amplifier wiring kit sized to the amplifier's power draw, typically including power and earth cable, a fuse, RCA leads and a remote wire. CEN stocks complete wiring kits, and the amplifier's fuse rating is the guide to the cable gauge required.

Q: What class of amplifier is this and does it matter?

A: Class D amplifiers are compact and efficient, ideal for subwoofers and modern installs. Class AB designs are traditionally favoured for outright sound quality on mid and high frequencies. The class is listed in the Specification tab where provided.

Q: Will an amplifier work with my factory head unit?

A: Yes, in most cases. If your head unit has no RCA outputs you will need a line output converter to feed the amplifier a clean signal. CEN stocks line output converters and can advise the right one for your vehicle.

Q: Can CEN install this amplifier?

A: Yes. CEN offers professional amplifier installation from our Nottingham premises, including secure mounting, wiring and setup. Contact us to book.

Q: Can the Hertz SP 4.900 power front speakers and a subwoofer?

A: Yes. In 3-channel mode it can drive a pair of 4 ohm front speakers plus a bridged 4 ohm subwoofer, and the crossovers allow the front channels to run full-range or alongside a subwoofer.

Q: How much power does the SP 4.900 deliver?

A: It delivers 160W x 4 RMS at 4 ohms, or 500W x 2 RMS when bridged at 4 ohms, with 1000W total power.

Q: Is the SP 4.900 suitable for motorcycles?

A: Yes. It has an IP55 aluminium chassis, no internal fan and a conformal coated main board to resist condensation, and is designed for motorcycle, sports car and truck installs.
