RetroSound® Technophonic 5-channel Amplifier

The Technophonic delivers 65W RMS to all four speakers and up to 330W RMS to your subwoofer. Switch between 2, 4 or 5 channel input modes and the amplifier intelligently routes the selected inputs to all five balanced outputs.

The Technophonic is 2-ohm and 4-ohm stable and bridgeable, giving flexibility when building your system. Low-level RCA inputs connect it directly to a RetroSound radio or any aftermarket stereo with RCA outputs.

Class D digital circuitry keeps current draw low while delivering exceptional dynamic range and minimal distortion at higher volumes. High-pass and low-pass filters let you fine-tune the audio, and the remote gain control adjusts bass levels from the front seat.

About the RetroSound Technophonic

From our tech experts at CEN

A compact amplifier suited to classic car installs, where space is tight and the original wiring was never designed for modern power.

Who it suits

Classic owners adding proper amplification behind a period-style radio, which is usually what turns a nice-looking install into one that sounds good too.

Our tech experts advise

In older cars the charging system, earths and wiring want checking before adding load. We do that as part of the job rather than discovering it later. get in touch. See car audio installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I choose the right amplifier for my speakers or subwoofer?

A: Match the amplifier's RMS output per channel to the RMS handling of your speakers or subwoofer at the same impedance. The Specification tab lists the power figures. If in doubt, contact CEN with your setup and we will recommend a match.

Q: What wiring do I need to install this amplifier?

A: You will need an amplifier wiring kit sized to the amplifier's power draw, typically including power and earth cable, a fuse, RCA leads and a remote wire. CEN stocks complete wiring kits, and the amplifier's fuse rating is the guide to the cable gauge required.

Q: What class of amplifier is this and does it matter?

A: Class D amplifiers are compact and efficient, ideal for subwoofers and modern installs. Class AB designs are traditionally favoured for outright sound quality on mid and high frequencies. The class is listed in the Specification tab where provided.

Q: Will an amplifier work with my factory head unit?

A: Yes, in most cases. If your head unit has no RCA outputs you will need a line output converter to feed the amplifier a clean signal. CEN stocks line output converters and can advise the right one for your vehicle.

Q: Can CEN install this amplifier?

A: Yes. CEN offers professional amplifier installation from our Nottingham premises, including secure mounting, wiring and setup. Contact us to book.

Q: How many channels does the RetroSound Technophonic have?

A: Five: four full-range channels at 65 watts RMS each (4 ohms) and one subwoofer channel at 225 watts RMS (4 ohms).

Q: Can the Technophonic be used with a 2-channel radio?

A: Yes. The input mode switch selects 2, 4 or 5 channel operation, and the amplifier routes the selected inputs to all five outputs.

Q: What fuse does the Technophonic need?

A: It uses two 30 amp ATC fuses on the amplifier, and an additional 60 amp fuse (not included) must be fitted on the battery positive wire as close to the battery as possible.
