About the PolarPro 135-GLDMST-77MM

From our tech experts at CEN

The PolarPro McKinnon 135 Series 1/4 Gold Mist is a 77mm diffusion filter made with German Chroma glass. It produces a warm, Kodak Gold film stock aesthetic in-camera using a 1/4-strength gold mist effect. The weather-sealed 6061 aluminium frame and matching retro film canister complete the package.

Who it suits

This filter suits photographers and filmmakers who want a warm cinematic look without relying on colour grading in post. It works well for portraits, landscapes, and video where a subtle analogue warmth is the goal. For other thread sizes, the McKinnon 135 Gold Mist is also available in 67mm and 82mm.

Our tech experts advise

Check your lens barrel for the thread size marking — most standard zoom lenses carry a 77mm thread. The Chroma glass has anti-reflective, anti-fingerprint, and anti-scratch coatings, and the weather-sealed aluminium frame adds protection outdoors. A Sunny 16 exposure reference is printed inside the canister cap, useful when setting exposure manually. See the full PolarPro range for more filter options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which filter do I need - ND, polariser or variable ND?

A: A polariser cuts glare and deepens colour. Fixed ND filters reduce light by a set amount for controlled shutter speeds. Variable NDs adjust across a range, making them the flexible choice for video. The filter type and strength are listed in the Specification tab.

Q: Will this filter fit my lens or drone?

A: Filters are made per thread size or per drone model. Check the size in the product title and Specification tab against your lens thread or drone model, or contact CEN to confirm.

Q: Do filters degrade image quality?

A: Quality glass filters are designed to be optically neutral. Cheap filters can introduce colour casts and softness, which is why we stock cinema-grade brands with strong colour accuracy.

Q: What is the difference between the Gold Mist and Black Mist?

A: Both are 1/4 strength McKinnon 135 Series diffusion filters. The Gold Mist is inspired by Kodak Gold film stock, while the Black Mist gives a Kodak Portra look with subtle diffusion and shadow depth.

Q: What thread size is this filter?

A: This filter is 77mm. Check that your lens filter thread is 77mm, which is usually marked on the lens barrel or inside the lens cap.

Q: What comes in the box?

A: The 77mm filter, a retro aluminium film canister to store it and a microfibre cloth. The canister cap has a Sunny 16 exposure cheat sheet inside.
