The Alpine R2-W8D2 is an 8-inch (20cm) R-Series subwoofer with dual 2-ohm voice coils, rated at 350W RMS (1000W peak). It features a double-stacked magnet motor, Kevlar-treated cone and Alpine's HAMR surround, and forms part of Alpine's 2nd-Gen R-Series subwoofer range.

The New 2022 R-Series Subwoofers
The 2nd-Gen R-Series subwoofers draw on decades of Alpine subwoofer engineering. They deliver deep, clean, accurate bass using Alpine's HAMR surround for maximum cone excursion. A lightweight, rigid ceramic dust cap keeps distortion to a minimum, and an enlarged motor structure provides tighter woofer control throughout.
New Motor Structure
Larger, double-stacked magnets deliver more motor force for deeper, tighter bass than the previous generation. An integrated Faraday ring minimises distortion, and a Kevlar-treated cone ensures reliable performance even at high volumes.
Next-Gen Sound Performance
Building on the Type R platform, Alpine's R-Series has long been recognised for output and reliability. The 2nd-Gen R-Series subwoofers push bass output further still.
Additional Reliability
A polypropylene/ceramic composite dust cap provides rigidity and internal damping to smooth bass response and reproduce tight bass. The material also offers higher heat resistance for sustained performance under continuous use.
Flexible Application
The R2-W8D2 uses a Dual Voice Coil (DVC) design with easy-configuration jumpers for flexible wiring options. A new "EZ-Change" twist-lock grille mounting system lets you fit or remove an optional grille without screws, giving the cone added protection. To fine-tune output from your listening position, the Alpine RUX-KNOB2 remote bass level control is compatible with Alpine R-Series amplifiers.
Increased Accuracy
Alpine's High Amplitude Multi-Roll (HAMR) surround allows the cone to move air efficiently while staying cool. It provides 20mm of total cone excursion for accurate, controlled bass output.

Q: Do I need an amplifier for this subwoofer?
A: Yes, unless it is an active (powered) subwoofer with a built-in amplifier. Passive subwoofers need an external amplifier matched to the RMS power and impedance shown in the Specification tab.
Q: What size enclosure does this subwoofer need?
A: The recommended enclosure volume is listed in the Specification tab where the manufacturer provides it. As a rule, sealed enclosures give tighter, more accurate bass while ported enclosures deliver more output. Contact CEN if you would like a recommendation for your build.
Q: What does RMS power mean?
A: RMS is the continuous power a subwoofer can handle, and it is the number that matters when matching an amplifier. Peak or max figures describe short bursts only. Match your amplifier output to the RMS rating in the Specification tab.
Q: Sealed or ported enclosure - which should I choose?
A: Sealed boxes are compact and produce tight, controlled bass suited to sound quality builds. Ported boxes are larger and produce more output at low frequencies, suited to those who want maximum impact. Either works well when built to the recommended volume.
