R-Series: the next evolution of proven performance
The 2022 2nd-Gen R-Series subwoofers build on decades of Alpine engineering to deliver deep, clean, accurate bass. Alpine's HAMR surround maximises cone excursion and bass output, while a lightweight, rigid ceramic dust cap keeps distortion low. The enlarged motor structure improves overall woofer control for a strong, clean bass response.
New motor structure
Larger, double-stacked magnets generate more motor force for deeper bass and tighter cone control than the previous generation. An integrated Faraday ring minimises distortion, and a Kevlar-treated cone ensures durability at high volumes.
Next-gen sound performance
Building on the reputation of the original Type R platform, the 2nd-Gen R-Series delivers even greater bass output and reliable performance. Pair it with a compatible amplifier and use the Alpine RUX-KNOB2 remote bass level control for convenient adjustment from the driver's seat.
Additional reliability
A polypropylene/ceramic composite dust cap provides rigidity and internal damping to smooth the bass response and reproduce tight bass. The material also offers higher heat resistance for sustained, non-stop bass performance.
Flexible application
The dual voice coil (DVC) design includes easy-configuration "EZ-Change" jumpers for flexible wiring options. The twist-lock grille mounting system allows an optional grille to be fitted or removed without mounting screws, offering additional cone protection.
Increased accuracy
Alpine's High Amplitude Multi-Roll (HAMR) rubber surround lets the cone move air efficiently while staying cool, allowing 20 mm of total cone excursion for accurate, controlled bass reproduction.

About the Alpine R2-W12D4
From our tech experts at CEN
A 2 inch subwoofer, with dual 4 ohm voice coils so it can be wired to suit your amplifier, handling 750w RMS.
Who it suits
Drivers building a system where the bass does real work rather than filling in. This suits a sealed or ported enclosure sized to the driver, in a boot or a custom build.
Our tech experts advise
A subwoofer is only as good as its enclosure and the amplifier driving it: box volume and amplifier matching decide what you hear, and dual voice coils give you options for how it is wired. We build enclosures and match amplification at our Beeston workshop. Installation is priced per vehicle, so get in touch with your make, model and year and we will confirm what it needs and what the work involves. See car audio installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need an amplifier for this subwoofer?
A: Yes, unless it is an active (powered) subwoofer with a built-in amplifier. Passive subwoofers need an external amplifier matched to the RMS power and impedance shown in the Specification tab.
Q: What size enclosure does this subwoofer need?
A: The recommended enclosure volume is listed in the Specification tab where the manufacturer provides it. As a rule, sealed enclosures give tighter, more accurate bass while ported enclosures deliver more output. Contact CEN if you would like a recommendation for your build.
Q: What does RMS power mean?
A: RMS is the continuous power a subwoofer can handle, and it is the number that matters when matching an amplifier. Peak or max figures describe short bursts only. Match your amplifier output to the RMS rating in the Specification tab.
Q: Sealed or ported enclosure - which should I choose?
A: Sealed boxes are compact and produce tight, controlled bass suited to sound quality builds. Ported boxes are larger and produce more output at low frequencies, suited to those who want maximum impact. Either works well when built to the recommended volume.
Q: Can CEN build or supply an enclosure and fit everything?
A: Yes. CEN supplies enclosures and offers professional installation from our Nottingham premises, including amplifier wiring. Contact us to discuss your build.
Q: How should I wire the Alpine R2-W12D4?
A: It has dual 4 ohm voice coils. Two jumper wires are supplied for DVC configuration, so the coils can be wired in parallel for a 2 ohm load or in series for an 8 ohm load to suit your amplifier.
Q: How much power does the R2-W12D4 handle?
A: It is rated at 750 W RMS continuous and 2250 W peak. Match it with an amplifier delivering around 750 W RMS at your chosen impedance.
Q: Is a grille included with the R2-W12D4?
A: No. It comes with a cosmetic trim ring, two jumper wires and the owner's manual. An optional grille fits using the EZ-Change twist-lock system.
