The PolarPro Peter McKinnon Series Helix VND 2-5 Stop (PM-2/5) is a variable ND filter with a 2–5 stop range, designed for cinematic shutter speeds across most lighting conditions. McKinnon Helix VND | 2-5 Stop (PM-2/5)

The 2–5 stop VND suits cinematic shutter speeds across most lighting conditions. The Helix MagLock™ system removes the need to thread filters on and off, while keeping the filter securely locked once in place.

  • 2–5 stops for cinematic shutter speeds in most conditions
  • 5x faster than threading filters on
  • Magnetic attachment plus quarter turn to fully lock the filter
  • Brass filter frames and thread bases
  • No vignetting down to 17mm with 1 filter
  • Preset stop range for zero cross polarisation
  • Includes filter and defenders. Requires Helix base plates, sold separately.

Never Thread a Filter Again

Helix MagLock replaces the drag of threading filters — no more cross-threading or filters getting stuck. The system supports PolarPro's full suite of glass, with advanced optics delivering razor-sharp results and zero colour shift in all lighting conditions.

Instant Filter Swaps Across Your Entire Lens Arsenal

Helix MagLock™ lets you switch filters faster than you can change lenses, integrating cleanly into your shooting workflow.

Brass Construction and Rubber Trim

Filter frames and thread bases are brass, with rubber trim on the filter frame.

MagLock Technology

The magnetic design holds filters and defender caps securely in place until you need to move them. A quarter turn fully locks the filter down.

About the PolarPro PM-2/5

From our tech experts at CEN

A variable neutral density filter, offering around 5 stops of adjustment, using PolarPro’s MagLock magnetic mount so it clicks on and off rather than threading, from the Peter McKinnon signature series.

Who it suits

Video shooters above all. A variable ND is what lets you hold a 180-degree shutter in changing light without stopping to swap filters, which is the difference between footage that looks cinematic and footage that looks like video.

Our tech experts advise

Variable NDs can cross-polarise at their extremes, so stay within the marked range rather than pushing to the stops. The magnetic mount is quick, but check you have the right base plate for each lens. get in touch for advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which filter do I need - ND, polariser or variable ND?

A: A polariser cuts glare and deepens colour. Fixed ND filters reduce light by a set amount for controlled shutter speeds. Variable NDs adjust across a range, making them the flexible choice for video. The filter type and strength are listed in the Specification tab.

Q: Will this filter fit my lens or drone?

A: Filters are made per thread size or per drone model. Check the size in the product title and Specification tab against your lens thread or drone model, or contact CEN to confirm.

Q: Why use an ND filter for video?

A: An ND filter lets you keep your shutter speed at roughly double your frame rate in bright light, which produces natural motion blur instead of a harsh, choppy look.

Q: Do filters degrade image quality?

A: Quality glass filters are designed to be optically neutral. Cheap filters can introduce colour casts and softness, which is why we stock cinema-grade brands with strong colour accuracy.

Q: How many stops does this Helix VND cover?

A: It covers 2 to 5 stops, which suits cinematic shutter speeds in most lighting conditions. A preset stop range prevents cross polarisation.

Q: Do I need a Helix base plate?

A: Yes. The filter comes with defenders but needs a Helix base plate on your lens, which is sold separately.

Q: Will this filter vignette on wide lenses?

A: There is no vignetting down to 17mm with one filter fitted.
