XDM600/1 overview
The XDM600/1 uses JL Audio's NexD™ switching design to deliver 600 W of continuous power into a 2 Ω load (14.4 V, 1% THD) from a compact chassis. Designed for car or marine installations, it is built with marine-grade materials and features an exclusive dual-mode input filter for noise-free performance in both environments. Automatic turn-on (via signal sensing or DC-offset sensing) makes it straightforward to integrate with factory systems.
The amp includes a variable-slope low-pass filter with continuously variable cutoff from 50–500 Hz, targeting subwoofer applications. All controls are protected beneath a gasketed, removable top cover finished in black powder-coat.
NexD™ switching technology
JL Audio has developed NexD™ technology from its long history in Class D amplifier design, beginning with the original Slash subwoofer amplifiers. A traditional PWM switching amp uses a fixed switching frequency and varies pulse width based on the audio input alone. This assumes ideal conditions — such as a steady power supply — that rarely exist in a real vehicle. Power supply sag causes distortion at all power levels, even well below clipping.
The NexD™ subwoofer design addresses this with a switching frequency of 240 kHz — around four times higher than most Class D subwoofer amplifiers. This extends bandwidth to at least 500 Hz with minimal distortion, improves efficiency, and keeps circuitry compact for tight, controlled bass output.
For full-range NexD™ amplifiers, JL Audio applies a variable, ultra-high-speed version switching at well over 400 kHz. A self-oscillating modulator with feed-forward sends information about the instantaneous power supply voltage to the modulator, cancelling distortion caused by supply voltage fluctuation before feedback is applied — simplifying the overall feedback loop design.
Advanced Rollback Protection
If the XDM600/1 reaches an unsafe operating temperature, Advanced Rollback Protection rolls back peak power output — without changing gain — until the amplifier cools to a safe level. A red Thermal or Status LED indicates this condition. Once the amplifier cools, full peak power is restored and the indicator returns to its normal state. In most cases the protection operates inaudibly, keeping audio playing under demanding conditions.

About the JL Audio XDM600/1
From our tech experts at CEN
A monoblock subwoofer amplifier from JL Audio’s range, rated at 600w RMS.
Who it suits
Anyone driving a subwoofer that needs real, controlled power rather than a compact powered unit.
Our tech experts advise
Matching the amplifier to the speakers matters more than headline watts, and the gains want setting with a meter rather than by ear. It also needs a fused feed from the battery on the correct cable gauge. Installation is priced per vehicle, so get in touch with your make, model and year and we will confirm what it needs. See car audio installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I choose the right amplifier for my speakers or subwoofer?
A: Match the amplifier's RMS output per channel to the RMS handling of your speakers or subwoofer at the same impedance. The Specification tab lists the power figures. If in doubt, contact CEN with your setup and we will recommend a match.
Q: What wiring do I need to install this amplifier?
A: You will need an amplifier wiring kit sized to the amplifier's power draw, typically including power and earth cable, a fuse, RCA leads and a remote wire. CEN stocks complete wiring kits, and the amplifier's fuse rating is the guide to the cable gauge required.
Q: What class of amplifier is this and does it matter?
A: Class D amplifiers are compact and efficient, ideal for subwoofers and modern installs. Class AB designs are traditionally favoured for outright sound quality on mid and high frequencies. The class is listed in the Specification tab where provided.
Q: Will an amplifier work with my factory head unit?
A: Yes, in most cases. If your head unit has no RCA outputs you will need a line output converter to feed the amplifier a clean signal. CEN stocks line output converters and can advise the right one for your vehicle.
Q: Can CEN install this amplifier?
A: Yes. CEN offers professional amplifier installation from our Nottingham premises, including secure mounting, wiring and setup. Contact us to book.
Q: Can the XDM600/1 be used on a boat?
A: Yes. It is designed for car or boat installations, built with marine-grade materials, with a dual-mode input filter for noise-free performance in either.
Q: What is the lowest impedance the XDM600/1 is rated for?
A: It is rated down to 2 ohms, where it delivers 600 W RMS at 14.4 V. A 1.5 ohm rating is not listed.
Q: Does the XDM600/1 have a subsonic filter?
A: Yes. It has a defeatable 30 Hz infrasonic filter alongside its 12 or 24 dB/octave low-pass filter, variable from 50 to 500 Hz.
