IMX678 & IMX675 Sensors - Less Noise, Less Motion Blur
A229 Pro is the industry's first dashcam using two flagship Sony STARVIS 2 image sensors, respectively for front and rear cameras. The two sensors, namely the IMX678 and IMX675, offer wider dynamic range and higher light sensitivity than the STARVIS tech, bringing much less noise and motion blur during day & night recording.
4K Ultra HD Front Recording
The front camera records in remarkable 4K with Sony STARVIS 2 1/1.8'' 8MP image sensor that packs in more pixels for greater clarity and detail. It captures license plates and more details with exceptional clarity day and night, even in high-speed driving.
2K Rear Recording

The A229 Pro 2CH sits in the middle of the VIOFO range and it is the model we fit most often. The front camera records 4K through Sony's STARVIS 2 IMX678 sensor and the rear records 2K, with HDR doing the hard work when a low winter sun sits behind the car in front or headlights are coming at you. Like the rest of the range it runs on a supercapacitor rather than a battery, which is why these cameras cope with a car that bakes in July and sits frozen in January.
Who it suits
Drivers who want the road behind covered as well as the road ahead. Rear-end shunts and tailgating are the incidents most likely to be disputed, and a rear camera settles them. If you only ever need the view forward, the 1CH version of the same camera saves money. If you carry passengers for work, the 3-channel version adds an infrared cabin camera for night fares.
Our tech experts advise
Budget for the HK4 hardwire kit at the same time. Parking mode is most of the reason to own this camera, and it needs a permanent feed from the fuse box rather than the 12V socket. Pair it with a high-endurance microSD card; 128GB is the sweet spot for 2-channel 4K, and ordinary cards fail under constant rewriting. If you would rather not take the trim off yourself, we fit the A229 Pro at our Beeston workshop from £100 for a 2-channel install, with the cabling hidden and parking mode configured before you collect the car. Q: What SD card do I need for this dash cam?
A: Use a high-endurance microSD card designed for continuous recording. Standard cards wear out quickly in dash cams. CEN stocks suitable high-endurance cards, and the maximum supported capacity is listed in the Specification tab.
Q: Does this dash cam record while the car is parked?
A: Parking mode is listed in the Specification tab. Where supported, it requires constant power from either a hardwire kit or a dedicated dash cam battery pack, both of which CEN stocks.
Q: Do I need to hardwire the dash cam?
A: Not necessarily. All dash cams work from the 12V socket for drive recording. Hardwiring hides the cabling and enables parking mode, and CEN offers professional hardwire installation from our Nottingham premises.
Q: Will the footage be accepted by my insurer or the police?
A: Dash cam footage is widely used in insurance claims and can be submitted to most UK police forces through their online portals. Recording quality matters, so check the resolution in the Specification tab.
Q: Front only or front and rear - which should I choose?
A: A front camera covers the most common claim scenarios. A two-channel system adds rear coverage for rear-end collisions and tailgating evidence, which is where many disputed claims arise. Three-channel systems add an interior view, suited to taxi and fleet use.
