How to choose a car stereo
Start with the size of the opening in your dashboard. A single DIN slot is roughly 180 x 50mm, while a double DIN slot is twice the height and suits touchscreen units. Floating-screen models such as the Pioneer SPH-DA97DAB-UNI and SPH-EVO98DAB put a large screen on a single or double DIN chassis.
Next, decide which features matter. If you use navigation and messaging from your phone, choose a CarPlay or Android Auto unit. If you mainly want DAB radio and Bluetooth streaming, a mechless single DIN stereo is simple and affordable. For classic cars, a retro car radio keeps the dash looking original. Most installs also need a fitting kit, so browse our installation kits for fascias, harnesses and steering wheel control adaptors.
Stereos FAQs
Q: Will a new stereo fit my car?
A: Almost certainly, with the right fitting kit: a fascia panel for your dash aperture, a wiring harness that avoids cutting factory wires, and usually a steering wheel control interface. Contact us with your make, model and year and we'll confirm the exact parts.
Q: What's the difference between single DIN and double DIN?
A: DIN is the chassis size of your dash aperture. Double DIN carries the large touchscreens that suit CarPlay and Android Auto; modern single DIN units offer fold-out or floating screens for older dashboards.
Q: Do aftermarket stereos support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?
A: Many current units support both wirelessly; others are wired. Each stereo's Specification tab lists exactly what it supports.
Q: Why buy a car stereo from CEN?
A: Authorised UK reseller of Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony and Alpine, with genuine UK stock, warranty support, and supply-and-fit installation including fascia, wiring and steering controls from our Nottingham premises.
Q: Can I keep my steering wheel controls?
A: In most vehicles, yes. A steering wheel control interface connects your factory buttons to the new head unit.
